Organic in a way is a new series of photographs by Kathy Lo. Inspired by her newly-discovered passion for organic gardening, these images use the essence of individuality in plant life as a lens for seeing four subjects. Like seedlings, their innate characteristics are revealed in a progression throughout the series. The stark style aims to emphasize the innocent, uninhibited nature of organic plants, shown through the absence of any layers or filters in the photographs. She sees these images as a testament to the truthful nature of organic agriculture, but also recognizes the undeniably inorganic aspects of the photographic process. Ultimately, each subject evokes a unique enigma reflective of the organic plants Kathy grows in upstate New York.

teenVAG: SHUTDOWN AT DOWNTOWN JAMBORÈE
June 29, 2012 (NY) The They Co. closed teenVAG’s Life of A teenVAG, installation to event goers at the first installment of The Cools Jamborèe held on the 27th of June 2012. With affiliation to St. Patrick’s Cathedral- the Old School on Mott Street, where the event was held, forbid the discussion of sexually explicit content and censored work that went against the Church’s moral code.
In the installation entitled, Life of a teenVAG, founders and curators of teenVAG Allison Levy and Natasha Nuñez, explored the taboo nature of sexuality within the school environment. Simulating a disciplinary meeting between the understood teenVAG girl and the ambiguous authority figure, the pair displayed what appears as confiscated sexual memorabilia in the form of teenVAG Issue #1 and Issue #2. Carrying out the imposed punishment for the possession of said material, the teen VAG girl filled a marble notebook with illicit penance whilst her backpack filled with unopened condoms, a pack of birth control, a mini vibrator, and a teen magazine sat on the floor by her side. The installation offered a commentary on the skewed perspective of underage sex, the misinterpretation of promiscuity and the celebration of girls being girls.
teenVAG will reinstall Life of a teenVAG, under new interpretation in reaction to an alternative environment. This pop-up exhibition will take place in the month of July 2012 with the date and location to be determined. The event will be a one-night engagement and will be open to the public.
Established in the spring of 2011 by Natasha Nuñez and Allison Levy, teenVAG is a self-published zine and creative platform used to promote the work of emerging female artists. Since its initial launch teenVAG has progressively developed into a collaborative network of artists working towards the exposition of women within the greater dialogue of the art world and the relevant topics directly affecting them and their contemporaries.
